Brandon re-established himself as a professional athlete in the competitive cycling arena. He continues to race mountain bikes and a mere one year after his last surgery he ranked in the top 10 statewide, the following year placing second in the California State Series. He brings compassion, understanding and a wealth of technical knowledge to his clients with regard to sports injury and over-all physical training practices.
His background includes an impressive portfolio of both physically and mentally taxing positions which require extreme conditioning. His qualifications are as follows:
Former police officer Leah M. Perkins Nicknamesà LP, Miss Leah, Princess Leah Birthdayà October 2 Classes I teachà BodyPump, BodyAttack, BodyJam—more to come! Education/Certifications:à Bachelors of Science in the field of Exercise and Wellness from Other Achievementsà Graduated with honors from ASU, December 2009; Placed 6th at the Los Angeles Bodybuilding, Figure, and Fitness Championships—Figure Class C, July 18, 2008. My Fitness Journeyà I have battled with weight for nearly half of my life. When I was happy, I ate. Sad, I ate. Grumpy, I ate. Bored, I ate. You get the picture. I mindlessly ate whatever was around all day. I didn’t pay attention to how the food made me feel afterwards, and I didn’t care. The only thing that mattered was that it tasted great NOW! At the age of 15, I found myself at an all time high of 170 lbs. That much weight on a 5’3” female just was not and is not healthy. Having lost the majority of my fickle friends—because jr. high is quite possibly the most awful age, and being obese at the same time only made matters worse—I was bound and determined to look like the rest of my skinny peers. I crash dieted in a very unhealthy and anorexic fashion for about 4 months and lost 50 lbs. Hooray! But I was still soft and flabby and never felt comfortable in my own skin. Roll the time table forward, turn 21, add alcohol and bar food into the equation, and slap back on another 30 to 35 lbs (not to mention a body fat percentage of > 36% !) GREAT! It was around this time, November 2006, that I decided I wanted to work at a gym. I got my feet wet in the fitness industry doing some personal training and I was having a blast. At that time I was also introduced to Les Mills group fitness classes. BodyCombat was my first one, and it literally beat me up. I never, I repeat NEVER thought I could teach a fitness class like that! Me? Are you out of your mind?! It was through the encouragement of some of my mentors at the time that I took the plunge and got certified in BodyAttack and a water aerobics program called Aqua Dynamic. This is when it hit me that not only had I found my life’s calling, BUT, if I didn’t get serious and “get fit”, I could never truly inspire those around me and in my classes to do the same. It has always been one of my values to lead by example, so in November 2007 I hired my first personal trainer, Franco. He whipped me into shape. It was a battle for him to tear down all of the walls of “I can’t” that I had built up over the years. His main objective was for me to “eat perfect”. That is the phrase he pounded into my head over and over again. I finally caved, because I absolutely hated letting him down when my weigh-ins weren’t satisfactory. By the end of February 2008 I had arrived at my goal of 120 lbs and ~23% body fat. From this point, I immediately decided to compete in a figure competition the following July. I learned what the real meaning of self control and what having an iron will really meant and felt like. These two experiences have largely shaped who I am and how approach not only fitness, but more importantly health. Now it is my privilege and duty to share my ever-growing wealth of knowledge so you too can taste how sweet it is to reap the benefits of true health and FUNctional fitness! Rebecca Mayorga I got Body Attack certified about 2 years ago. I also teach TurboKick, also known as kickboxing. I love to teach and help others to achieve their fitness goals. Taking BodyAttack and/or Kickboxing 2-3 times a week will give you a jump start at your fitness goals, or help to maintain what you have already achieved. I would love to see you in class!
